Welcome to Great Basin Natives

Welcome to Great Basin Natives! A NATIVE PLANT NURSERY. Let me thank you for visiting Great Basin Natives' web page. It is our desire to provide you with quality native plants.

Our plants are grown in two different size containers.  Ray Leach tubes are the economy size ($4.25  to $5.25). The tapered tubes are 1 ½ inches in diameter at the top and either five or seven inches deep.  The roots do not grow around the tube, but grow down which helps establish a good root system when planted.  Plants are also grown in #1 pots $8.50 to $13.50), commonly called gallons, for those who like a larger, more established plants.  Plants are carefully packed to be able to survive unexpected rough handling during  shipment.

When you have selected the plants that you want, click the checkout button. Click on "new" or "returning" customer.  Enter pass word or address information.   If you use Pay Pal, click on it.  If you use a credit card, click on: “continue check out.”  At the order confirmation page click on: “pay now.”   This page gives you several opportunities to use pay pal.  If you don’t want to use Pay Pal,  click on the word: “continue” after the question: “Don’t have Pay Pal account?”  Then follow the final directions.

If you need help with your order, please give me a call. If I don't answer, leave a message and I will call you back. (435) 795-2303. Or you contact me by e-mail. gbn@greatbasinnatives.com    Our Address:   75 West 300 South, PO Box 114, Holden, Utah  84636

We have frost and snow at gbn, and most plants are dormant now.  Leaves are gone, but some of the penstemons basal leaves remain green all winter.  Now is a good time to plant if you are in a warmer climate, zone eight or higher.   Even though the leaves of trees and shrubs are gone, but once planted there will still be root growth now which will give the plants a good start in the spring.

The Great Basin is a huge inland basin that covers parts of six western states. Most of Nevada, a large part of Utah, parts of Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and California are in the Great Basin. Elevation ranges from 282 feet below sea level in Death Valley to 13,000 feet at the summit of Mount Wheeler in Eastern Nevada. Average annual rainfall ranges from over 40 inches in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah to 1.5 inches at Death Valley. Hot summers and cold winters characterize most of the Basin. Floristic assemblage range from alpine tundra, windswept ridges, conifer forests, mountain meadows and brush lands, sagebrush and salt deserts scrub, barren playa, crevice communities, sand dunes, to riparian habitat. This environmental diversity supports an equally high diversity of plants.

UTAH'S CHOICE

Utah's Choice is a selection of plants that are native to the Intermountain West. The Intermountain West is bordered on the west by the Sierras and on the east by Rocky Mountains. The north end begins in the interior valleys of British Columbia and stretches to the pine forests of northern Arizona. This is a vast area with varied diversity of native plants.

Utah's Choice is a collections of plants native to the Intermountain West selected for home and commercial landscapes. These plants were selected by members of the Utah State University Center for Water Efficient Landscaping, the Utah Botanical Center, the Utah Native Plant Society, and the Intermountain Native Plant Growers Association. These plants are not only selected because that they look great, but they easy to grow, conserve water, and provide habitat for wildlife.
